MANILA, Philippines - Deadline for registration for the National Geographic Channel’s Earth Day Run is on April 11 with the event’s inaugural staging set to fire off on April 18 at 5 a.m. at the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City.
Over two thousand runners have so far confirmed their participation in the fund-raising event aimed at creating awareness about caring for our planet with the roster expected to swell this week as the public, including running enthusiasts, troop back to Manila following the Holy Week break.
Walk-in registration is accepted at Nike outlet in Bonifacio High Street and Timex outlets in SM Mall of Asia and North EDSA until April 11 while on-line listup is available at www.natgeorun.com until April 14.
Events on tap are the 3K, 5K and 10K races, with entry fees of P500 for 3K run, P600 for 5K and P700 for 10K, inclusive of a limited edition Earth Day Run technical shirt, according to the event’s organizers, headed by FOX International Channels Territory director Jude Turcuato.
Proceeds of the event, which will have as its theme “Inspiring the People to Care about the Planet,” will support the Design Against the Elements (DatE), a global architectural design contest that aims to provide a solution to the problems presented by climate change.
Turcuato also said that the funds to be generated from the event will help build affordable, sustainable, eco-friendly and disaster-resistant model houses in Taguig City that can withstand calamities like last year’s Ondoy flooding.
