MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Swimming League, headed by former national tanker Susan Papa and founder Theresa Alvarez, is sending five swimmers and two coaches to compete in the All-Star Challenge International Swimming Spectacular set at Western Australia April 2-3.
The age group swimmers are Paul Jerome Carpio, Miguel Thruelen, Sidney Miralao, Gertrude Thea Pilapil, and Gabriella Miralao. They will be accompanied by PSL coaches Al Papa and Manny Thruelen.
The swimming meet will be held at the state-of-the-art Challenge Stadium, the only swimming complex to hold two FINA championships.
“This great facility will provide our young athletes with a wonderful, competitive and social experience,” said Papa.
“There will also be an international coaching conference included in this program to be held at Western Australia University, and it aims to provide an opportunity for Australian and international coaches to learn new skills and get the latest information from some of the Western Australian leading experts,” she added.
The team’s stint is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, under chairman Harry Angping, and Aquatic Sports Association of the Philippines president Ma. Luz Arzaga-Mendoza.
