MANILA, Philippines - The PCSO Metro Manila Women’s Inter-Collegiate Beach Volleyball Challenge kicks off today with 10 topnotch teams mixing it up for the top honors and handsome prizes on the sand court of the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig.

Ateneo, Letran and Adamson are fielding two teams each, while Far Eastern U, University of the East, Mapua and Miriam College have one each for the event, which comes after the successful staging of the NCAA beach volleyball games in the same venue only recently.

Speedo, a world renowned sports apparel maker, and perennial sports patron Tanduay, have pitched in to up the ante for the one-day invitational backed by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and organized by Joe Cantada Sports.

“We in Joe Cantada Sports are proud and elated to be identified with Speedo, a respected brand of quality sportswear especially during the summer. And thanks to our other sponsors, we have a fitting opener for the 2010 summer sports season,” said head organizer Edgardo “Boy” Cantada.

Speedo gift certificates are up for grabs along with cash prizes while action will be shown in its entirety on the television program Golf Power Plus on primetime NBN-4 and the worldwide The Filipino Channel.

The participants are all billeted at the first class facility of the Cantada Sports Center - now considered as the main venue for boxing, beach volleyball, basketball and other sports of Manila.
