National Geographic Channel holds Earth Day Run

MANILA, Philippines - The National Geographic Channel (NGC) is staging the inaugural Earth Day Run next month to create awareness about caring for our planet and at the same time, help save the environment.

The run is set on April 18 at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City beginning at 5 a.m.

It features 3-kilometer, 5K and 10K races, with entry fees of P500 for 3K run, P600 for 5K and P700 for 10K, inclusive of a limited edition Earth Day Run technical shirt.

Proceeds from the meet will support the Design Against the Elements (Date), a global architectural design contest that aims to provide a solution to the problems presented by climate change, according to FOX International Channels Territory director Jude Turcuato.

“We Filipinos care a lot about our health. This time, let’s show our planet we care about its health,” stressed Turcuato in the weekly PSA Forum Tuesday at the Shakey’s in UN Ave. “On April 18, let’s show the world how much we care by joining the thousands who will wake up early to run, walk and be counted. A little sacrifice will definitely inspire people to care about our planet.”

Former model-actor Illac Diaz, head of the advocacy group for ecologically sustainable communities, also appeared in the session presented by Outlast Battery, Pagcor, Shakey’s and Accel.

“We’re doing this because climate change is due to happen so we want architects all over the world to join us and come up with designs for houses that can withstand environmental calamities brought about by climate change,” he said.

Turcuato added, “The funds we’ll generate out of the event will help build affordable, sustainable, eco-friendly and disaster-resistant model houses in Taguig City that can withstand calamities like last year’s Ondot flooding.”

Online registration is available at www.natgeorun.com until April 14.

Walk-in registration is also accepted at Nike outlet in Bonifacio High Street and Timex outlets in SM Mall of Asia and North EDSA until April 11.
