'The Hurricane' out to kick up a storm

-

MANILA, Philippines - Living up to her moniker, United States-based Filipina Ana Julaton wants to take women’s professional boxing by storm.

The 29-year-old Julaton, nicknamed “The Hurricane” for her ability to throw punches in flurries, said she’s all set and ready to go when she guns for a third title against four-time world champion Lisa “Bad News” Brown at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada on Sunday.

Julaton, who has won six of her matches and lost and drew once on her way to netting the World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Association super bantamweight crowns, hopes to add another one that should establish her reputation as the Manny Pacquiao of women’s boxing.

“It’s going to be a hard fight but my conditioning is great, I’m very excited and ready to go,” said Julaton in yesterday’s teleconference at the 17th floor of television giant GMA 7’s main building.

GMA 7 also used the occasion to welcome Julaton as a new member in its galaxy of Kapuso stars that included Pacquiao himself as well as Smart Gilas Pilipinas captain and collegiate hotshot Chris Tiu and Nonito Donaire Jr.

“We’re proud to have you in the Kapuso family and we wish you luck,” said GMA 7 CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon, who was one of the top GMA executives present in the press briefing.             – Joey Villar
