MANILA, Philippines - A banner field of teams from different parts of the country is expected to participate in the Summer Grandslam IV - 2010 National Softball Open Championships slated May 1-7 in Baguio.
‘’We have just finished Softball Pilipinas, the country’s first semi-professional fast pitch softball league and holding the National Softball Open will help sustain the momentum for softball, “ said ASAPHIL president Jean Henri Lhuillier. “We expect to get more teams this year, including provincial ones just as we had last year when we had the event in Rosario, Pasig.”
Lhuillier will also be seeking re-election as NSA head during the national election which will be simultaneously with the event in Baguio.
Air Force easily beat Taguig, 7-3, to win last year’s tournament, which atrracted 27 teams. The Legends of Pampanga took the national championship on its very first try by defeating Adamsom-Manila.
Air Force already confirmed it would be back to defend its crown but the Legends teams will not be joining as most of their players are playing in Brunei, according to ASAPHIL ‘s Jun Veloso.
The Blu Girls, currently preparing for the Asian Games later this year, will be competing in the men’s division as a guest team as part of their training, according to Veloso.
