RP-Japan rivalry up in Pagcor KF2-KF3
MANILA, Philippines - Filipino and Japanese karters renew their rivalry as the 2010 Pagcor Sports KF2-KF3 Cup Series stages its third leg tomorrow at the Carmona Racetrack.
As two-time champ Stefano Marcelo of San Miguel Corporation-Maranello-Marcelo Racing enjoys solo lead, the Japanese, behind Kuwayama Racing brothers Reo and Tsubasa Takahashi are eager to bounce back and keep their title hopes alive in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Pagcor Sports and Aeromed.
Making it more exciting is the quest of PCR-Tough Gear Racing-Fern C top gun Milo Rivera for second straight victory after emerging the first young karter to beat Marcelo in four years.
With the series on its penultimate leg, other karters are also gearing up to boost their title bids as Marcelo also has to deal with Indonesian Senna Sulaiman Noor, Javi Benitez of Jet Racing, Andres Calma of Full Throttle, Mike Fox, VJ Suba of PCR-Tough Gear Racing-Fern C, and Ready2Race troika Juha Turalba, Roby Benito and defending Karter of the Year Joey Orduna.
The battle for the KF3 crown is also expected to take an unpredictable turn with the four-way battle among Cebuano Jette Calderon, Kim Lagman, Japanese Marino Sato and Indonesian Yasuo Senna Iriawan of Red-White Racing.
Out to stop them are PCR-Tough Gear Racing-Fern C’s Estefano Rivera and Vrei-AR Suba, Cebuano Tonyo Carcel of AUTS Racing, Franco Reyes of Jet Racing, Ready2Race lady karter Jenn Tumambing and Singapore-based Christian Villeneuve of San Miguel Corporation-Maranello-Marcelo Racing
Christian Gaddi of Jet Racing and Basti Escalante of Ready2Race will resume their showdown in the Mini-ROK Challenge where they’ll be going up against PCR-Tough Gear Racing-Fern C’s Carl Pollington and Aira Medrano, Marc Meynet, Cebu lady karter Kali Carcel.
The Filipinos dominated the last race as the Japanese, who were first timers at the Clark International Speedway, found themselves struggling and ended their campaign in frustration.
But with the action back at Carmona, the Japanese eye better chances of stopping Marcelo and put up an exciting finale to the battle for the title.
However, Marcelo is also keen on pulling a back-to-back crown and make another historic milestone in the event.
“This is part of my goals in my comeback in local racing. The series is getting tougher each leg but hopefully, I’ll pull through the challege,” said Marcelo.
Adding spectacle to the event is the SQ Exhibition Race where Jason Choachuy eyes another big win over Bobby Noriega, Eugene Euperio and John Effinger.
