Folayang braces for war vs Korean warrior

MANILA, Philippines - Reigning welterweight champion Eduard Folayang expects a tough and gripping showdown when he battles Korean Dooje Chung in the featured bout of the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) dubbed as Colt 45 URCC XVI “Reckoning” on March 27 at the A. Venue Events Hall in Makati.

For one, the Korean fighter is quick and strong, especially his arms, being a former gymnast.

A Brazilian gracie jiu jitsu expert, Chung belongs to the NEOFight Korea stable which prides itself as having the most number of popular Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) practitioners in South Korea.

Aside from the Folayang-Chung showdown, nine other equally exciting bouts await MMA fans in the event presented by Colt 45. Tickets are now available at Ticketnet (tel. No. 9115555).

“I saw his previous fights on video and I’m impressed with his fighting skills. He’s a good fighter,” said the pride of Baguio City. “But I’ll do my best to preserve my record.”

Folayang is staking his unblemished record – he won all his five previous URCC matches, not to mention his legacy as one of the country’s finest wushu experts.

“That’s the reason why I’m training so hard here in Baguio,” said Folayang, who donned the country’s colors several times, including the 2005 Manila SEA Games.

The “Reckoning” is the first of three major events the URCC will be staging this year through the sponsorship of Tribal Gear and My PLDT Watchpad with Solar Sports, Solar TV, NU107 and 99.5RT as media partners.

Also backing the event sanctioned by the Games and Amusement Board are VRP Medical Center, SEAIR, Chris Sports, Yoshinoya and Padi’s Point.

The comeback fight of former flyweight champion Richard Lasprilla is also expected to draw attention. He will face newcomer Angelo Estanol of Strike and Shoot.
