Eduque graces Magnolia karting super series opener

MANILA, Philippines - Automobile Association Philippines Motorsports director Mandy Eduque will be the guest of honor as the country’s premiere karting tournament – the 2010 Magnolia Purewater Karting Super Series unfolds today at the Carmona Race Track.

Eduque will keynote the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. together with race organizer Johnny Tan as more than 60 karters are set to compete for the titles at stake in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia Pure Water, San Miguel Corporation, Petron Corporation, Denso Iridium Power, Motorstar and Aeromed.

Singapore-based Christian Villeneuve has been confirmed as the lone foreign competitor as he joins the title hunt up against local ace junior karters who will try to prove themselves as local karting’s next batch of racing champions.

As Orduña moves up to the senior division, the quest for the Junior Karter of the Year will be an exciting scuffle among Cebuanos Jette Calderon and Tonyo Carcel of AUTS Racing, Jet Racing’s Franco Reyes, Archim Lagman, Marino Sato and Estefano Rivera and Vrei AR Suba of Fern C-PCR-Tough Gear.

Aside from the ROK Overall and the ROK Junior classes, competing karters will be vying for the titles in the ROK Heavy, ROK Novice, Formula SL Expert, Formula SL Novice, Formula SL Heavy, the Mini-ROK, the SQ Exhibition Race and the Baby ROK where fresh young faces aged 8-10 show off their potentials.

Reigning champion Christian Gaddi will be defending his post for the third straight year but faces tougher competition this year with marked improvements of Basti Escalante, lady karter Kali Carcel, Jaz Monzones, Marc Meynet and Cadet champion Carl Pollington Fern C-PCR-Tough Gear who will be moving up to a higher class together with teammate Aira Medrano who made it as Cadet class Overall Runner-up last year.

The other legs are set April 10-11at the Batangas Racing Circuit, May 1-2 at the KartZone in Cebu City, July 10-11 back at the Carmona Race Track for the Philippine leg of the Asian Karting Open Championship, August 21-22 at the Enchanted Kingdom in Sta Rosa Laguna, September 18-19 at the Boomland Kart Track and the championship on November 20-21 at the Clark International. Speedway .

Favored in the other divisions are Patrick Gandionco in the ROK Heavy class, Von Medrano of Fern C-PCR-Tough Gear in the ROK Novice and Formula SL Heavy respectively, Indy Villalon in the Formula SL Expert and Kali Carcel in the Formula SL Novice
