Calderon, Iriawan split karting honors
MANILA, Philippines - Cebuano Jette Calderon and Indonesian Yasuo Senna Iriawan of Red and White Racing shared the KF3 honors recently in the kickoff of the 2010 Pagcor KF2-KF3 Cup Series at the Carmona Circuit Philippines here.
Both first timers in the KF3 division, the two showed excellent driving skills in winning separate races of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Pagcor and Aeromed.
Calderon, last year’s Formula SL Novice runner-up, rallied in the final lap to outsmart experienced rivals Vrei-AR Suba of PCR-Tough Gear Racing and Franco Reyes of Jet Racing and rule the first KF3 race.
Calderon took the perfect time to pull a crucial dive on the 10th lap and put up defensive driving for the fastest laptime of 43.878 seconds on the 12th to keep his post all the way to the finish line.
He wrapped up the 15-lap race in 11 minutes and 47.491 seconds or a far 2.420 seconds ahead of Suba while Reyes ended third just a split second behind.
Iriawan, who wound up fourth on the first race, dominated Race 2 by pulling away early.
The young Indonesian ace widened his lead along the way as he took the checkered flag by a far 6.102 seconds from Calderon who ended runner-up.
Estefano Rivera of PCR-Tough Gear Racing staged a ] comeback from his last place finish in Race 1 as he made the big move against Suba with three laps to go to claim third place.
