Arcilla reigns in Marawi netfest
MANILA, Philippines - RP David Cup player Johnny Arcilla defeated Rolando Ruel Jr., 6-0, 6-1, yesterday to win the singles crown in the Marawi Sultan Fahad “Pre” Salic tennis tournament at the Mindanao State University tennis court.
Arcilla later teamed up with Elbert Anasta to claim the doubles honor by beating Francis Casey Alcantara and Ronald Joven, 6-3, 3-0 (Ret), with Alcantara forced to quit due to a sprained ankle.
Earlier, in the semifinals second seed Anasta trounced Kim Saraza, 7-5, 6-3; third seed Ronald Joven defeated Alcantara, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, in a two-hour showdown; fourth seed Ruel ripped Mario Sabas, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, in another marathon match; and Arcilla repulsed Juvan Divinagracia, 6-1, 6-1.
The five-day tennis competition, which is supported by Marawi City Mayor Sultan Fahad “Pre” Salic, is organized by the United Tennis Players of the Philippines and sanctioned by the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association.
It is supervised by former national player Tom Falcis.
