Manila 5000 hits road March 14

-

MANILA, Philippines - The First Manila 5000 Run, a road racing event committed to developing road race runners, is slated March 14 on a course starting and ending at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Covering a distance of 5,000 meters, Manila 5000 is the maiden salvo of the Roadracingevents (RRE), a one-stop race management and equipment rental outfit established recently.

Veteran marathon internationalist Dino Jose, RRE managing director and race organizer, said RRE is committed to elevating the standard of road races and improving the level of performance of the Filipino runner. He said they are starting with the 5,000 meters, shortest road race which has an equivalent Olympic event, the 5000 meter run.

Red Dumuk, a vital cog in the Manila International Marathon, Pilipinas International Marathon and Magnolia International 20K, ex-national race director of the Milo Marathon and former president of the Association of Road Race Organizers which presided over the ‘80s running boom, has been appointed RRE consultant.

Entry fee is P350, which includes a jersey and certificate of achievement. Registration is ongoing at second floor, PSC Administration bldg., Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Vito Cruz St., Manila and at Chris Sports and R.O.X. stores.
