Labrador hits ace on Day 2 of Mango Tee

MANILA, Philippines - Bob Labrador fired the biggest shot so far in the ongoing 26th Mango Tee Invitational member-guest tournament when the business executive aced the water-laced 16th hole of the Alabang Country Club late Tuesday afternoon.

Labrador, a member of Eagle Ridge playing as guest partner of Enrique Punsalang, hit a Nike Juice ball with a Callaway Big Bertha 5-wood into the hole of the 170-yard par-3 to make himself eligible for a bounty of prizes in the tourney co-presented by Smart and Pilipinas Shell.

Labrador, national sales manager for flour business of San Miguel Mills, stands to win a brand new P1.1 million Mitsubishi Lancer EX and a Club Car worth more than P200,000 all to himself if no one else scores a similar feat on the same hole in the last four rounds of the six-day competition.

It was Labrador’s first ace in 14 years of playing. And it could not have come at a better time.

Four variants of the newly-introduced Mitsubishi Lancer EX put up jointly by Citimotors and Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. and so many other high-ticket items are being disputed by the 768 entries of the Mango Tee.

Also to be won in the raffle on Saturday are more than a million pesos worth of premium items including a Yamaha cart, TW steel watches, two Philippine Airlines tickets to the West Coast and an Asiana trip to any destination in the world.

Jose Xerex Burgos and Raul Ilagan combined for a net 13-under 85 points to take the top spot in the provisional leader board. They led by three over Rudy and Jaime Zapanta.
