Condura holds 42K run at Skyway

-

MANILA, Philippines - Inspired by its successful 21K run at Skyway last year, the Condura Run for the Dolphins 2010 will now become a full marathon when the third staging of one of the country’s premier running events fires off on Feb. 7 at The Fort in Taguig.

“Running is our passion and our mission is to get the whole Philippines as passionate about running as we are,” said Ton Concepcion, founder of Condura Run and Condura president and COO, at the PSA Forum Tuesday at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch. “And the only way we can do this is to give runners the best running experience possible.”

Organizers of the event expect to surpass the roster of 6,279 which participated last year as a total of 4,000 had already registered as of yesterday in the various events on tap including the 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K and 42.195 km full marathon.

During its inaugural run in 2008, around 2,000 runners saw action.

“We have indeed come a long way as we enter the third year of the Condura Run. We have run farther and farther from 10K, 21K and now, we are proud and excited to be staging our very first Condura Skyway 42K marathon,” Concepcion said.

Joining him in the session presented by Outlast Battery, Pagcor, Shakey’s and Accel were Concepcion Industries vice-president Patrick Concepcion, Skyway president Ed Nepomuceno, race director Rudy Biscocho, Sonia Trading general manager Anil Buxani and Abe Cipriano of Asia Brewery.

A prize purse of P60,000 awaits the champion in the 42.195km full marathon, which will be flagged off at 4 .m., while P10,000 will be given to the winner in the 21K run.

Registration is ongoing at RUNNR Bldg 3 and Planet Sports branches at Trinoma Mall and Alabang Town Center. Deadline is set on Feb. 3. For details and on-line listup, visit www.condurarun.com.

Like last year, the 2010 staging of the meet will have maritime environment for a cause, with the organizers hoping to raise awareness to help preserve the whale sharks in Donsol, Sorsogon.

In 2008, the Condura Run was held to raise funds for the Tubbataha Reef.

Organizers have partnered with Bantay Kalikasan (BK) for Girawan, a community based eco-tourism project site of BK located by the riverbanks that lead out to Donsol and into the feeding grounds of the whale sharks.
