Xavier, St. Jude notch 3rd wins; CKSC scores

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Xavier School and St. Jude Catholic School rolled to their third straight wins while Chiang Kai Shek College bounced back with a victory over Grace Christian College in the Freego-Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA) Tournament at the Chiang Kai Shek gym over the weekend.

The Golden Stallions, gunning for a second three-peat in 10 years, walloped St. Stephen’s High School, 96-55, while the Judenites blasted Uno High School, 83-34, to keep their share of the lead in the tournament presented by Fresh Gear Revolution Denim.

RP Under-16 standout Jeron Teng came away with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Xavier while Jose Manuel, Harold Ng and Donal Ong combined for 42 points.

Jason Ligad led St. Jude with 19 points on an impressive 8-of-12 shooting and drew solid backup from Jiro Joaquin, Carlo Cheng and Derrence Lam.

Chiang Kai Shek, on the other hand, used one big scoring spurt late in the second quarter to beat Grace Christian College, 92-68.

Hope Christian High School notched its first win with an 89-43 rout of Uno High School in the tournament backed by Fern-C, 100 Plus Isotonic Sports Drink Outlast Battery, Rusty Lopez, Puma, Converse, Burlington, Davis Paint, MEC Computer, Molten, Bantex Sandal and Bow and Wow – the Natural Pets Food Store.

Rookie center Errol Villar led Hope Christian’s well-balanced attack with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
