Adamson U spikers sweep Lady Maroons
MANILA, Philippines - Adamson survived a fierce challenge by University of the Philippines as it hacked out a 25-19, 27-25, 25-18 victory to remain in second in women’s volleyball in the UAAP at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.
After seizing the opening set, the Lady Falcons roared to a 6-0 advantage in the second but faltered in the face of the Lady Maroons’ mighty charge with the latter forcing a 25-all count.
But the Marcelino-based spikers came through with back-to-back points capped by a set-clinching block by setter Des Patilano.
Angela Benting and Jill Gustilo then took over in the third as the Lady Falcons completed the straight-set victory, their fifth against a loss.
La Salle shows the way with a 6-0 slate.
“The girls tried out several plays in the second set, that’s why it was close. But they got back to work in the third set that’s why we had little problems winning it,” said Adamson coach Dulce Pante in Filipino.
The win also primed up Adamson against University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday in a re-match of the Shakey’s V-League finalists late last year.
Over at the UST Tan Yan Kee Student Center, Far Eastern U and UST walloped Adamson, 3-1, and La Salle, 3.5-.5, respectively, in the opener of the chess competitions graced by NCFP president Butch Pichay.
The Tams leaned on wins by Lyndon Sombilon, Sheider Nabato and Luffe Magdalaga to hammer out the win.
Tristan Soriano scored the lone point for Adamson against James Bulicatin on board.
