KidzHoops tourney up at RFM gym

MANILA, Philippines - KidzHoops, now on its seventh season, opens its all-Sunday basketball tournament for kids aged eight to 14 on Jan. 17 at the RFM Gym on Pioneer St., Mandaluyong.

The first conference leveling day will be held after the registration at 1 p.m. The tournament proper starts Feb. 7.

Keeping true to its mantra “where everybody plays”, KidzHoops is keeping the three divisions – 10U, 12U and 14U – for a closer contest comparative to size and maturity of the children playing.

“The development of fundamental movement skills is most important at this stage; having fun and building a base of integrity, respect and sportsmanship for future sports participation and success is the league’s primary goal,” said organizer Eva Celestino, whose Kidzhoops has produced top junior players in the UAAP and NCAA.

“Boys and girls are encouraged to join this co-ed tournament. For a minimal registration fee the kids are assured of four league games and one tourney game with certified referees,” said Celestino.

Playing jerseys will be provided and medals and individual awards can be earned in the tournament. The league determines the composition of teams to level the playing field and tracks the team records. Volunteer parents will serve as coaches for the teams.

Only 40 slots per division will be accommodated.
