San Carlos sweeps FBL Cebu finals

MANILA, Philippines - It was a complete sweep for the University of San Carlos as all its three teams in the finals prevailed over its respective opponents in the finals of the mini, midget, and junior divisions of the Futures Basketball League (FBL) in Cebu.

USC-North’s mini team, led by co-MVP’s Kan David Arquillano and Steven Co, set the tone by edging out Sacred Heart School-Jesuit in the last 13 seconds of the game, winning by a mere point 44 - 43 for USC’s first title while its midget team leaned on a 10-foot jumper by FBL Rising Star awardee Paul Galinato to win 37 - 35.

 USC players CJ Satorreo and Linjo Iglorai emerged age group MVP’s together with SHS-J’s Angelo Pioquinto in the tournament sponsored by Primovit Multivitamins, Samsung, Gatorade, Philips Peripherals & Accessories, and Accord Capital.

With those two victories, USC was assured of a sweep as the junior division finals saw USC-South meeting USC-North for the championship with the former posting a lopsided 51-35 win over USC-N to complete the sweep .

USC-S was led by the trio of co-MVP’s Esrom Cuizon and Rithcris Nwanaka,and rising star Mitchell Antigua.

“The FBL has already become a major youth sports development program here in Cebu with a lot of FBL players having moved up to the next level including the varsity teams,” said FBL-Cebu tournament director Mike Reyes.
