Team Metro, Stanford win Hoops titles

MANILA, Philippines - Team Metro won the third Conference Division 1 of the Hoops Challenge as it defeated University of Asia & the Pacific Dragons, 75-71, at the Club650 Sports Center in Libis, Quezon City recently.

Finals MVP Greggy Abellon led the balanced attack with 21 points and he was ably-supported by four other teammates – Pat Garcia had 14, Ryan Peña 13, Luis Sinco 11

and Kris de Mata 11. The Dragons were led by Mike Pamintuan’s 21 and Jolo Valdez’s 17 points, respectively.

In Division 2 action, Stanford, behind the triumvirate of Alex Mangupag, Yoy Villegas and Gai Chiatioco, held off Team Estrella, 87-80. Estrella was led by Mikael Daez’s 24 points and Chiqui Reyes’ 17.

The Hoops Challenge, which attracted 18 teams, is a weekend recreational basketball

tournament supported by AUTOINDUSTRIYA.COM. Now on its sixth year,

it is set to begin the next conference on Jan. 9,
