Special tiffs up in Pasig card
MANILA, Philippines - Two special fight attractions spice up the dual Philippine championship offering on Dec. 12 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, headlined by the title fight between Eden Sonsona and Monico Laurente for the vacant RP bantamweight crown.
Dan Nazareno Jr. takes on Korean Jung-Hoon Yang in a 10-round bout set at 147 lbs., while Allan Tanada slugs it out with Tadamasa Takashima of Japan in an eight-rounder to be fought at 124 lbs.
The special bouts are part of the `Quest For Glory’ boxing card presented by San Miguel Beer-Samahang Walang Katulad, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), GSIS, Petron and Biogenic Isopropyl Alcohol in cooperation with Rod Nazario’s In This Corner, the Rizal Provincial Government under Gov. JunJun Ynares and former Gov. Casimiro “Ito” Ynares.
Fight starts at 4 p.m.
Both Nazareno and Tanada are fighting out of the Rod Nazario boxing gym.
Yang, meanwhile, is the KBC (Korean Boxing Commission) top light-middleweight contender out of the Ring Korea boxing gym, while Takashima is the No. 1 super-bantamweight contender by the JBC (Japan Boxing Commission) from the Nakama boxing gym.
The double attraction is expected to complement the 12-round title fight between the 20-year old Sonsona, the country’s top bantamweight contender and Laurente, the 25-year old fighter ranked fourth in the same weight class today.
Sonsona is also from the Rod Nazario boxing gym and fresh from a second round technical knockout of Eilon Kedem of Israel during the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight slugfest in Las Vegas, Nevada last month.
Laurente meanwhile, is from the Johnny Elorde boxing stable.
The other championship offering is for the RP super-flyweight crown which Danilo Pena stakes against no. 2 challenger Marvin Tampus.
The dual championship presentation, part of a special eight-fight boxing card, will be shown in the top rated program Rod Nazario’s In This Corner telecast every Sunday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., over NBN-4.
