WBL finals set this weekend

MANILA, Philippines - University of Santo Tomas and St. Scholastica’s College survived tough opponents recently to arrange a titular duel for the collegiate crown of the Milo-backed Women’s Basketball League (WBL).

The Tigresses edged University of Asia and the Pacific, 44-42, for the right to face SCC, which disposed of University of the Philippines, 40-33, for the premium title in the tournament organized by the pioneering BEST Center (Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training Center).

The UST-SSC clash is set at 8 a.m. on Sunday at the St. Pedro Poveda gym.

De La Salle and Assumption also fight it out for the 17-Under Competitive crown. Assumption beat Miriam College, 52-47; while La Salle trashed San Beda-Alabang, 44-28, to earn the final slots.

For the 17-Under Developmental crown, Southville, which clobbered St. Theresa’s College, 54-24, will have Miriam, which subdued Colegio San Agustin, 50-26, as championship rival.

Miriam College -A, which trashed sister team Miriam B, 57-8, will have St. Pedro Poveda, which demolished La Salle-Zobel, 45-15, as 13-Under championship foe.

Battles for third place is set Saturday at the Xavier School gym between Miriam and San Beda-Alabang (17-Under Competitive), Colegio San Agustin and St. Theresa’s College (17-Under Developmental), Miriam College-B and La Salle Zobel (13-Under), and UP vs UA&P (Collegiate).

The Championship rounds will highlight Best Center ‘s year-end programs, which included reach out activities to communities in Antipolo, where Best Center founder and chairman Nic Jorge recently held a medical mission.
