CJH moves up on home turf

BAGUIO, Philippines – Camp John Hay sizzled in freezing cold as it pooled a 122 to wrest the lead from erstwhile leader Maxima/Komatsu heading into the final round of the 60th Fil-Am Golf Invitational tournament here Wednesday.

Jong Won Park submitted the day’s best score of 34 points, equivalent to a two-over 71 in stroke play, as the hosts pooled a three-day total of 327 to grab a three-point lead over Maxima/Komatsu in the premiere Senior’s Fil-Champ.

Nelson Eslao added 31 points, Fred Puckett made a 30 while Clyde Cabreros and Bong Mandapat scored 27 points each, one of which counted.

After two fine rounds at Baguio Country Club, Maxima/Komatsu slowed down with 112 points for a 324 as Atoy Sarmiento made 30 points, Antonio Hernandez had 29, Florene delos Santos struggled for 28 points, while Bong Sison had 25. Freddie Mendoza didn’t count with a 22.

“CJH showed their course knowledge today,” said Maxima/Komatsu team captain Bayani Fontanilla Jr.

Nueva Ecija had 107 for a 298 for third while Batangas Barakos made a 263 after a 95 for fourth.

In the Am division at the BCC, CJH tallied 83 points that included 23 points from Rudy Loceky, 22 from Moon Kyu Cha, 21 from Bob Patterson and 17 from Willy Campos for a 288.

Batang-Gas closed within at 287 as Manolo Agojo fired 24 points, Butch Brodett had 23, while 21 and 19 points, respectively, came from Mario Naval and Cres Bendijo. – Artemio Dumlao
