Wushu ace punishes foe in URCC

-

MANILA, Philippines - Roy “The Punisher” Docyogen of Lakay Wushu outsteadied Alvin Ramirez in a rugged showdown to retain his pinweight crown Saturday in the Colt 45-Universal Reality Combat Championship XV at the World Trade Center.

Using leg kicks and takedown techniques, Docyogen, a wushu expert, pounded Ramirez with wicked shots to the body to earn a unanimous decision over the hard-fighting Ramirez and extend his winning streak to seven in the 10-match event dubbed “Onslaught” and presented by Colt 45.

Mark Sangiao and Caloy Baduria, however, yielded to superior foreign rivals.

Sangiao, also of Lakay Wushu, was easily dispatched by Guamanian defending champion Justin Cruz while Baduria suffered another stinging defeat at the hands of reigning titlist Chinese Zhang Tie Quan in their middleweight duel.

Cruz, 24, combined power and speed to pull off a standing guillotine victory in the first round, drawing applause from the huge crowd.

Ali Khatabi of DEFTAC also kept his featherweight title after his match with Andrew Benibe was declared a no-contest after Khatabi accidentally poked Benibe’s eye. Benibe even pleaded to the referee to allow him to continue fighting but his request was turned down.

Two-time SEA Games wrestling champion Marcus Valda was equally awesome as he dethroned heavyweight champion Vicente Pajaro.

Valda was on Pajaro’s back most of the time, punishing Pajaro with heavy blows from all angles.

Pajaro’s corner threw in the towel to avoid further injury to the fighter, who received severed blows and had to be helped out of the five-roped square ring after the contest.

The only knockout win was posted by Sabah Fadai, who unleashed a vicious left kick that felled Arie Zarco in 2:39 of the first round.

Other winners in the supporting bouts were Japanese Hideo Morikawa, who scored an armbar submission over Ramonito Pabroa, Jilmar Tangayan who registered a referee-stopped contest (RSC) win over Mags Gonzalez, Eric Kelly, who beat Dan Rubio, and George Lusadan, who outclassed Lando Espinosa.

The event, organized by the URCC headed by Alvin Aguilar, was supported by Alaxan FR, Globe Tattoo, No Fear Pony & E-Games, Solar Sports, CS9, 99.5 RT, NU107, Getzmo? And Pinoy Exchange.
