Reyes shocks Tierro, sets title duel vs Arcilla
MANILA, Philippines - Fil-Italian Mark Reyes made his mark in the PCA Open yesterday, beating second seed Patrick John Tierro, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, and barging into the finals at the Plaza Dilao indoor courts yesterday.
The left-handed Reyes used strong forehand shots to overpower Tierro in the opening set, blew a 4-1 lead in the second frame but reasserted his might in the decider and fired away blistering winners to complete the victory.
The Italy-based Reyes, who also upended third seed Enebert Anasta in the quarters last Thursday, will try to complete his impressive campaign as he goes for the crown against Johnny Arcilla in the finals today.
Arcilla battled back from a set down to turn back Casey Alcantara, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, in the other semis clash in the tournament backed by The Philippine STAR, Pera Padala, Alagang Cebuana Plus, Just Jewels, Le Soleil De Boracay, Phiten, Accel, Coca-Cola Bottlers, Dunlop, San Miguel, Universal Paint, Pagcor, Pet One, Little Lawrence, Babolat, Philta, Whirlpool, Pixel Project, Burlington Sports Socks, RFM Corp, Shirt Republik, Manila Bulletin, Business Mirror, The Manila Times, Malaya, Tribune and Solar Sports.
