Liza makes WC quarterfinals
MELAKA, Malaysia – The Philippines Liza del Rosario completed the 24-game qualifying round with 5098 pins Wednesday to rank fifth and easily make the women’s quarterfinals of the 45th QubicaAMF World Cup tournament at the 52-lane bowling center here.
Now on her fourth international finals, Del Rosario put together games of 203, 193, 202, 202, 217, 239, 209 and 202 in her third 8-game block to boost her average to 212.42 and cap her sparkling rally from 11th place in the opening round.
The Filipino right-hander joined 23 other bowlers in the quarterfinals of the world’s toughest individual amateur competition led by England’s Zara Giles, frontrunner from the start who sizzled with 5275 in 24 games and a 219.79 average.
Malaysia’s Siti Safiah Amirah checked in second with 5241 (218.38 average), followed by Canada’s Caroline Lagrange (5218, 217.42), Russia’s Evgenia Tsarkova (5175, 215.63), the United States’ Tenelle Milligan (5122, 213.42), Del Rosario, Sweden’s Helen Johnsson (5092, 212.17), Korea’s Baek Seung-ja (5065, 211.04), Australia’s Ann-Maree Putney (5054, 210.58) and Norway’s Patcharin Torgersen (5032, 209.67).
