Valeros tops MCC chess
MANILA, Philippines - Second seed Junar Valeros drew his fifth and final round against No. 3 Romie Lord Guerra in 35 moves of a Sicilan to rule the November edition of MCC 1850 below standard chess tourney at St. Francis Square in Mandaluyong City over the weekend.
The 23-year-old Valeros, a member of the Adamson varsity team, wound up with 4.5 points in the five-round tournament and took the top P3,000 purse.
Guerra settled for second with four points in a tie with Raul Villate. Both shared the pooled P3,000 cash prizes. Villate won his last match against Nico Paguagan of UST.
