Buncio bags third superbike crown
MANILA, Philippines - Maico Buncio of Elf-Moto Oil-YRS Racing achieved another milestone with his third crown in the 2009 BRC Superbikes Series which ended recently at the Clark International Speedway.
Following his victory, the 20-year-old Buncio is hoping to reach new heights as he bids to surpass the feat of 10-time superbike champion Jolet Jao with support from Elf-Moto Motorcycle Oils, NAMSSA, Motoworld, Denso Spark Plugs, Dunlop Japan, BPI Family Savings Bank, GS Battery, Accel Sportswear, Fast Lane and YRS Motorcycle Modifications.
“I thank God for winning the title for the third straight year with the support of my parents, sponsors and fans. To break Jao’s record is actually far from my mind for now, but that is very much possible,” said Buncio, the youngest champion at age 18.
Buncio captured the Superbikes plum with 172 points. Already far ahead in points going into the final leg, he went on to finish unopposed following the disqualification of closest rival Glenn Aguilar.
His main sponsor, Elf-Moto Oil, cited him for his feat, which included the overall 130cc Open crown which he won with 218 points over Anthony Roman (198).
Buncio also copped the day’s big win in the 115cc Open over series champion Johnlery Enriquez and Suzuki teammate Paul Mark Doblada.
