World Darts slot staked in RP tilt

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s top darters dispute the lone berth to the World Darts Championship in the Philippine Qualifier which got under way at the Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall in Cainta, Rizal yesterday.

Last year’s top qualifier Lourence Ilagan, who finished fourth in the Winmau World Darts Masters Championship in England recently, heads the field that includes the top ranked players of the National Darts Federation of the Philippines, led by Boie Parfan and Ian Perez, who placed second in the recent Shanghai Open.

Also in the fold are Arvie Briones, winner of the 2009 French Open, and 2007 top qualifier Jojo Barellano from Davao City.

The top eight players after the open double knockout best-of-five will advance to the next round against the top 10 ranked players of the NDFP in the round robin phase to be played till Sunday.

Meanwhile, the P100,000 Robson Sportscraft Darterong Pinoy gets going today with more than 500 players vying for top honors.

Events on tap are the classified draw doubles, fixed four person team, fixed doubles, mixed doubles, and the seniors, youth, ladies and men’s singles events.

The event is organized by the NDFP in cooperation with Robson Sportscraft, Chris Sports, Fundador, PCSO, and Razor Dartboards.
