AIG medalists get PSC bonus

-

MANILA, Philippines - Medalists in the ongoing Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam will receive cash incentives from the Philippine Sports Commission as part of the sport’s body’s incentive program.

The PSC yesterday guaranteed monetary rewards to the Filipino medalists, majority of whom will see action in next month’s SEA Games in Laos.

“They would get incentives that’s for sure, but we’re still studying how much we’ll give them,” said PSC chair Harry Angping. “They’re almost the same athletes competing in Laos, we hope this incentive should give them added inspiration to strive for excellence.”

At presstime, Annie Albania, who won the lone boxing gold in the 2007 Thailand Games, snared the country’s first gold medal by overpowering Thailand’s Sopida Satumrum to score a 12-4 win in their bantamweight finals.

Two more Filipino lady pugs, light welterweight Mitchell Martinez and pin weight Josie Gabuco will also receive incentives for bagging a silver medal and a bronze medal, respectively.

Tanker Miguel Molina also won a silver in the 200m IM, while Biboy Rivera snatched a bronze in bowling.

Sanshou artist Rhea May Rifani also assured herself of a silver medal even as muay artist Zaide Laruan, Jay Harold Gregorio and Maricel Subang gained automatic bronze medals. – Joey Villar
