San Beda, UP dominate UniGames swim

MANILA, Philippines - San Beda College and University of the Philippines-Diliman stamped their class in the swimming competitions in the 14th UniGames in Iloilo City with the former winning 15 of 16 men’s events and the latter sweeping the women’s side.

John Orlan Simora and Ferdinand Frigillana led San Beda’s charge, winning five gold medals each. Simora topped the 100m and 200m breaststrokes and 200m individual medley while anchoring SBC’s romp in team competitions.

Frigillana, on the other hand, topped the 100m, 200m and the 400m freestyle events and shared in two team gold medal feats.

UP’s Carla Grabador, meanwhile, won six gold medals, including four in the individual events, to emerge the top swimmer in her division. Teammate Claire Adorna added three individual golds and shared in two team gold medal wins to power UP to the women’s swimming team championship.

Defending overall champion RTU finished second in both divisions while UP came in third in the men’s division. St Benilde finished behind RTU in the women’s side.

In other finals results, College of St. Benilde scored a double in lawn tennis, winning both the men’s and women’s divisions, with sister school De La Salle University-Manila finishing second in both divisions.

Brokenshire College finished third in the men’s side while Ateneo settled for third in the distaff side of the week-long competition, sponsored by Hi-Smart Multivitamins, PCSO, CHED, the Philippine Sports Commission, Milo 3-in-1 Adult Drink, Gatorade Thirst Quenchers, Mang Inasal, and David’s Salon.

FEU and St. Benilde shared team honors in table tennis with the Morayta-based squad taking the men’s championship, followed by San Beda College and St. Benilde.
