MANILA, Philippines - To accommodate the big number of participants, organizers of the first Quezon City International Marathon have extended the deadline for registration of the P3 million event to Thursday.
“We have been getting a lot of last-minute inquiries from running enthusiasts asking if they can still sign up for the QCIM, which is why we are accommodating them,” Art Disini, QCIM general manager and chairman of the organizing Runners Executive Club (Runnex), said yesterday.
The keenly awaited event fires off Sunday at the QC Memorial Circle.
“We want as many of our local runners to be a part of this great running experience. The way things are going, we are optimistic of making our target of 10,000 participants hitting the road on Sunday,” said Disini.
The event is sponsored by San Miguel Corp., The Philippine STAR, New San Jose Builders, GMA Network, Puregold and Nissan Navara.
Disini said that group and individual entries can still sign up at all Nike branches in the metropolis, namely: Bonifacio High Street, Taguig; The Podium, Ortigas Center; Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Festival Mall in Alabang; and the Trinoma mall in Quezon City.
They can also register at the Quezon City Hall, according to the organizers of the event, backed by Shoemart, Ayala Land, Robinsons Land, Nike, Salonpas, Maxima, Manila Water, Timex, Fitness First, Nature Valley and Universidad.
Disini said registration fees for the 5K and 10K races are pegged at P300, P500 for the 21K run, respectively, and P600 for the centerpiece 42-km marathon highlighting the 70th founding anniversary of Quezon City under Mayor Sonny Belmonte.
Belmonte has vowed to ensure the successful staging of the event with top stars from the Kapuso network expected to grace and add spice to the occasion.
And with P3 million in cash and special prizes lined up for the participants, Disini said this is one opportunity that local runners cannot afford to miss.
