MANILA, Philippines - Promising young karter Antonio Sebastian “Basti” Escalante of TRS-Ready2Race embarks on a tough challenge as part of the RP karting team vying for honors in the 2009 World Macau Karting Championship set Oct. 9-11 at the Kartodromo de Coloane Circuit.
It will be the second Macau stint for Escalante, an 11-year-old fifth Grade La Salle-Zobel student who will be gunning for the Mini-ROK crown with the big support of Tuason Racing School, OMP, Werdenberg International Corp., Bridgestone, Audi, Bank of Commerce, PUMA, Transnational Diversified Group, Washington Watches, Emcor, Kservico.
A consistent podium finisher, Escalante sees his third place finish at the Enchanted Kingdom as a big morale booster in his campaign for honors up against the world’s best in the 1.7 km circuit.
“This will be a significant event since this is the first time that the world championship will be staged in the Asian region. And we hope to make an impact showing to the world that Filipinos are at par in this sport,” said Basti, who has the full support of his parents Agnes and chef TonyBoy Escalante of the famous Tagaytay Gourmet Restaurant Antonio’s and Agnes.
He’s currently fourth in the Mini-ROK division of the local Magnolia Pure Water Karting Super Series with 239 points. Providing technical support for Escalante is personal coach and multi-titled karting champ Mike Tuason.
“This will be a breakthrough experience for Basti who will be facing the world’s best in the event. Barring any incident, we believe Basti has great chances of making it,” said Tuason.
