Drag racing on at Clark

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Drag Racing Championship-Northern Series fires off today at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga with over 100 cars expected to rev up.

The rivalry between the V8 American muscle cars and the modern four-cylinder vehicles spice up the battle for the titles in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama Tires, San Miguel Corp., Pilipinas Shell, Pagcor, Aeromed, Stoplight TV and Hastings Motor Corp..

Among the top American muscle cars in the fold are Ken Kepner’s Camaro and John Ryzia’s 1968 Chevy, which finished among the top contenders in last year’s edition of the event.

The four cylinder cars, behind Jonathan Tiu’s Mitsubishi Evo 5, prevailed in the end.

But expect the American muscle cars to get back at their counterparts.

Meanwhile, Tiu’s JCT-Blanche Racing tries to reassert its supremacy over the likes of H3 Motorsports, Team Ready, Kool Plus, W. Autosport-Vannitec, Montavita, Alps Racing, Kanzai and Mohspeed.

Out to foil Tiu’s bid in the Quick 8 class are Vanni Garcia of W. Autosports-Vannitec, H3 Motorsports top gun Pepi Santos and John Kalaw and Blanche Racing’s Ed Christian Go.

BRC Drag Racing director Fil Gulfin advised all participants to come early for the registration with the qualifying runs to start at 9 a.m.

Also favored in other classes are first female Drag Racing champ Jeannette Go in the Hotstreet division, Jonathan Young in the Expert class, Jon Sarmiento in the Sportsman division and Ed Christian Go in the Pro class.
