MANILA, Philippines - Alabang posted a win and a runner-up finish as it racked up six points to hold off Canlubang in their duel for the overall crown after six legs of the WGAP (Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.) circuit, at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmarinas, Cavite recently.
Joan Morales shot 40 points under the Modified Stableford system, Finina Gorres and Verni Oledan tossed in 39 points apiece while Lolit Arguelles made 37 as the Alabang ladies nipped their Cangolf rivals, 155-154, to capture the Class A crown.
Meanwhile, Cangolf’s Detsy Laurel scored a hole-in-one on No. 12 en route to a 27-point performance in Class C
Alabang also finished second in Class C ruled by Tagaytay Highlands and placed third in Class B topped by Riveria while Canlubang came in second in Class B and third in Class C.
With a six-point haul, Alabang upped its total to 28 points heading into the final two legs of the eight-stage circuit organized by WGAP. Canlubang remained in second with 22 points followed by Tagaytay Highlands (15), Southwoods (9) and Sta. Elena and Aguinaldo, tied for fifth with eight points.
Forest Hills had seven points while Villamor, Riviera and Valley toted six, three and two points, respectively. The top five teams after eight legs will advance to the WGAP Cup, a match play format set later this year.
Lucy Landicho also churned out a 40-point performance and took the individual crown while Lina de Guzman and Marivi Laurel each scored 39 points and Teresa Carpio fell short with 36 points for Canlubang.
