Lyceum nears WNC cage, volley crowns
MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum moved one win away from retaining its basketball and volleyball crowns while La Consolacion College Manila and University of Asia and the Pacific took the Senior B opener of their respective series in the 40th WNCAA tournament at the St. Scholastica’s College gym last Sunday.
Rookie Lalaine Flormata and Jessica Polindey combined for 23 points as the Lady Pirates beat the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, 52-42, and stayed on course for a fourth straight plum.
La Consolacion, behind Hazel Mangabat’s 17 points, nipped UA&P, 58-57, in the Senior B finals. It was the UA&P Dragons’ first loss in five games this season after sweeping the elims for an automatic finals seat.
Lyceum also won Game 1 of the Senior A volleyball finals against Rizal Technological University, 25-21, 29-27, 25-15. The Lady Pirates gun for crown, its 10th straight, on Sept. 27.
