MANILA, Philippines - What was intended to be fun racing turned into an exciting competition as Audel Sison of Autocraft ruled Round 2 of the Tuason Racing School (TRS)-Race of Champions Autocross recently at the Greenhills open parking area.
Sison, a member of the Mazda BT 50-TRS Drifting Team, narrowly escaped Discovery Suites drivers Carlos Pedrosa and Bobby Horrigan in this event powered by Ford Racing,Goodyear, Standard Insurance, OMP, City of San Juan under Mayor JV Ejercito, Discovery Suites, Yellow Cab, PTT Phils, Oakley, Bioactive, Fremuff, Ultraracing, Orange Wireless, Speedlab, K & N Filters, Unichip, ROTA, Starbright Bodykits, Dupont, C!Magazine, Hastravel.com, Businessworld and Philippine AutoClub.
Sison banked on his racing experience to rule the Consumer’s class in 38.95 seconds or just 0.04 of a second ahead of Pedrosa (38.99). Horrigan, who made his mark as the first winner of the TRS Ford Focus Cup, ended close third in 39.01.
“It should have been a fun day of racing, but everybody pushed his best and it really turned out exciting. Win or lose, everybody went home happy with the experience,” said Sison.
The Ford Dealership Cup also turned out equally exciting with Sonny Galban of Ford Alabang winning the champion’s trophy with a time of 41.36 seconds against Ford-EDSA rivals Paul Baradas (42.08) and Carlo Malapitan (43.04).
But what really drew the crowd’s attention was the Media Cup where the Print Media tandem of Philippine STAR’s Jeff Reyes and Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Manny de los Reyes logged a combined time of one minute, 18.61 seconds to win the crown.
The Top Gear duo of Beeboy Bargas and Ferman Lao bagged the runner-up honors with a close total time of 1:18.85.
or just 0.24 of a second behind while the Autoindustriya pair of Vince Pornelos and Inigo Roces finished third with 1:19.82.
The last round is set on November 7 exclusive for media only at the Subic International Raceway.
