MANILA, Philippines - Imus Institute survived a three-setter against a feisty Angelicum squad, 25-21,13-25, 25-22, to lead in Division II of the ongoing Shakey’s Girl’s Volleyball League supported by Toby’s Sports, Mikasa, Asics and Mighty Sports.
The trio of Faith Chu, Mae Crisostomo and Charmille Belleza, who delivered five kills, combined for 26 points for the team.
“Our defenses collapsed in the second set but good thing Mae and Charmille regained their confidence at 19-all to bring home the victory,” said coach Luis Llanera.
Imus led Division II bracket A with a 4-0 slate.
St. James Academy’s Jonelle de Jesus, with eight kills and seven blocks, single-handedly tore the defenses of Southville Int’l School, 25-17, 25-9, to notch their fourth victory also for a 4-0 slate in Division II bracket B.
The Laguna-based San Antonio de Padua banked on veteran players Rialen Sante and Gyselle Sy to grab their second straight win against Valenzuela Nat’l HS, 25-9, 25-10, in Division I bracket C.
In other matches, OB Montessori Greenhills dealt Colegio de Santa Rosa its third loss, 25-10, 25-15. Hope Christian Academy-Fairview won the three-setter against St. Mary’s College, 23-25, 25-18, 25-14. Unida Christian College walloped St. Joseph School-Fairview, 25-20, 25-17. Grace Christian HS beat St. Mary’s College, 25-13, 20-25, 25-20.
