National bowlers lead WC elims

MANILA, Philippines - National bowlers Benshir Layoso, Tyrone Ongpauco and Paolo Valdez lived up to expectations Sunday by finishing 1-2-3 at the start of the Bowling World Cup national men’s finals at Coronado lanes.

Layoso shot a 12-game series of 2632 pinfalls, Ongpauco carded 2616 and Valdez submitted 2567 to lead 31 other finalists into the second round of the tournament organized by Puyat Sports and co-sponsored by Amway-Nutrilite.

With their scores carried over, the remaining aspirants for the national crown and the right to compete in the 45th BWC international finals in Melaka, Malaysia will roll an additional 12 games at SM Mall of Asia today with the top eight advancing to the finals at Paeng’s Eastwood Bowl on Friday.
