Ramirez dominates Milo Little Olympics
MANILA, Philippines - Trisha Ramirez came away with three victories in various events to bag the Most Outstanding Athlete award in the 2009 Milo Little Olympics National Capital Region zone at the Marikina Sports Park in Marikina City over the weekend.
Ramirez topped the 400-meter run in one minute and 07.4 seconds in the rains to pocket the first gold medal staked in the annual youth sportsfest sponsored by Milo.
The 11-year-old Grade 6 student from Dr. Jose P. Rizal Elementary School-Cavite came back in the afternoon to rule the 800-m and 1,500-m runs to complete the three-gold medal haul and crown herself the event’s top athlete.
Ramirez also led the gold medalists in other fronts to the Milo Little Olympics national finals slated Oct. 24-25 in Cebu City.
The inclement weather failed to dampen the spirits of the participants numbering to over 6,000 elementary and high school students-athletes representing 200 schools around Metro Manila and neighboring provinces as they took part in the event which staked a total of 1,450 gold, silver and bronze medals in 12 events.
The colorful opening rites also featured contests in the Biggest Delegation, Loudest Cheer, Best in Saludo, Most Disciplined Team, Cheer Dance and Best Muse.
