Three-way fight up in Samsung Interscholastics

CANLUBANG, Laguna , Philippines  – More than a hundred players from 15 Metro Manila schools will dispute team and individual honors in the ninth Samsung Interscholastic golf championships starting today to Sept. 17 at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club north course here.

A three-cornered fight among La Salle, Ateneo and a revitalized Angelicum looms in the boys competition while St. Paul’s Pasig will be the team to beat in the girls side of the three-day event backed chiefly by Samsung Electronics Philippines, Inc.

The tourney features competitions in grade school, high school and college for both boys and girls.

Represented are Angelicum, Ateneo, Beka Academy, Brent International, College of St. Benilde, Hope Christian School, Integrated Montessori Center, Lyceum of Cavite, Philippine Christian of Tomorrow, Reedley International, St. Paul’s College Pasig, Morning Dew Montessori and the La Salle branches of Greenhills, Zobel and Taft.

Wow Magic Sing, Crestlink, Cranuti, ABW, Gargol are the other sponsors of the Interscholastics. Microtel is the official hotel while Inquirer Golf, A Round of Golf and Golf Punk are media sponsors.

New recruit Bino dela Paz will back up Jobim Carlos at Angelicum which will try to break the La Salle domination of the boys high school play. La Salle Greenhills captain AR Ramos will also have enough support for their team bid.

St. Paul-Pasig is fielding potent lineups led by back-to-back Optimist International and US Kids world champion Maan Legaspi, Marvi Monsalve and Daniella Uy in the girls battle. Former national player Reg de Guzman is expected to challenge for the individual crown.
