Newly formed UTPP to stage tourneys of tournaments
MANILA, Philippines - The United Tennis Players of the Philippines (UTPP), a newly formed tennis organization, will hold a series of events aimed at enhancing the skills of players and give them a chance to compete in international tournaments organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
Headed by the top five tennis players in the country – Johnny Arcilla, PJ Tiero, Rolando Ruel, Ralph Kevin Barte and Elbert Anasta and Davis Cupper Pop Sabandon – the UTPP also seeks to encourage amateur tennis players to strive for excellence in the sport.
“Tennis is an understated sport, especially in this country,” Hattah Dimaporo, UTPP’s founding chairman said. “What we want to do is we need to make the whole world know that we have good tennis players here.”
Menawhile, the third leg of the Johhny Arcilla tennis circuit kicks off on Sept.21-27 at the Luis Village Tennis Club in Butuan City.
The event is sanctioned by the Philippine Lawn Tennis Foundation (Philta).
Major sponsors are Herbalife and Babolat.
