Taguig cops Liga leg title on home turf

TAGUIG, Philippines – Forward Taguig ruled the Smart Liga Pilipinas Conference III Taguig Leg with a pulsating 74-71 win over the Smart-Pampanga Buddies Saturday at the C. P. Tinga Memorial Hall.

The hard-earned victory gave Taguig Mayor Freddie Tinga a sweep of all their four games and duplicated last week’s feat of the ML Kwarta Padala-Cebu Niños.

They earned the maximum 15 Liga Tour points while giving their new head coach Bing Victoria a fitting debut in the league backed by Smart, Accel, Molten, Calcium-Cee, Gatorade, Air 21 and Burlington and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Down by 13 after three periods, 53-66, the Buddies of Coach Allan Gregorio came alive at the start of the final period with Anthony Espiritu hitting back-to-back triples that sparked a 12-2 salvo that cut their deficit to three, 65-68.
