MANILA, Philippines - Hope Christian High School routed Holy Infante Montessori, 25-8, 25-2, to lead opening days winners over the weekend in the sixth Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League at the Arellano University gym in Manila.
Denden Tan made 12 kills and eight blocks as she led the Hope spikers past their HIM counterparts in the tournament sponsored by Toby’s, Mikasa, Asics and Mighty Sport.
Other opening day victors were Imus Institute over Hope Christian Fairview, 25-12, 25-14; St. James over St. Joseph School Fairview, 25-17, 25-16; University of Perpetual Help Laguna over MGC New Life Academy, 25-11, 25-22; San Antonio de Padua over Miriam College, 25-10, 25-7; and Imus Institute over DAZSMA, 25-21, 25-12.
The elimination round resumes this weekend with Grace Christian School playing Angelicum College at 1 p.m., Colegio de Santa Rosa meeting St. Joseph School Fairvew at 2 p.m., Unica Christian College battling Southville Int’l School at 3 p.m. and St, Mary’s College tangling with DAZSMA at 4 p.m. The tournament serving as the Metro Manila eliminations for the Tournament of Champions opened last Saturday with simple rites attended by officials of the sponsoring firms.
