MANILA, Philippines - Second seed Jose Madriaga halved the point with No. 11 Steven Dacanay after 46 moves of a King’s Indian Defense in the fifth and final round and ruled the MCC 1850 below standard chess tourney held over the weekend at St. Francis Square in Mandaluyong City.
Madriaga, who works as an engineer at Emerson Electic Corp. for Asia, posted a total output of 4.5 points with four wins and one draw and claimed his second MCC title. He went home richer by P3,000.
