MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Lyceum, College of St. Benilde and University of Asia and the Pacific kept their hold on the top spot with their third straight win on Sunday in the 40th WNCAA basketball tournament at the St. Scholastica’s College gym.

In the junior division, Miriam College, rookie squad St. Jude Catholic School and San Beda College Alabang made it a three-way tie for top spot at 2-0.

The CSB Blazers set the tone for the leaders’ lopsided wins after dumping the Centro Escolar University Scorpions, 79-44. Veteran Julie Ann Paras led CSB with 14 markers.

The Lady Pirates then scored another rout with a 65-40 thumping of the Philippine Women’s University Patriots. Jessica Polindey and Jona Yasay scattered 22 and 13 points, respectively, for the three-time defending champions.

The UA&P Dragons held sway in Senior B, outlasting the San Beda Red Lions, 58-45, with Aurora Biolena leading the attack anew with 21 points.

The 40th WNCAA is being supported by Monster Radio RX 93.1, Goody, IBC 13, Manila Bulletin, Sports Digest, Muscle Tape, Burlington Biofresh, MJC Photography and Macgraphics Carranz.
