MANILA, Philippines - Manila Southwoods frolicked at home and recorded its first win in the premier class of the Women’s Golf Association of the Phils. (WGAP) circuit even as Canlubang topped Class B at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite recently.
The hosts drew 44 points from Beachie Abiera under the Modified Stableford system while Claire Ong tossed in 38 points and Min Gi Kim and Claudine Garcia chipped in 37 points apiece as Southwoods pooled a 156 to post a five-point victory over Canlubang.
Marivi Laurel and Flordeluna Silao fired 39 points each while Teresa Carpio and Lina de Guzman made 37 and 36 points, respectively, for Canlubang’s 151-point aggregate.
Aguinaldo, winner at Riviera, also made a 151 but lost in the countback and settled for third place. Karen Kine led Aguinaldo with 45 points and went on to bag the individual crown in Class A.
Cangolf flexed its muscle in Class B, running away with a nine-point lead over Southwoods with a 154 total.
Recy Barrientos shot 42 points, while Rosita Laurel, Junko Naruse and Harumi Ieda had 39, 37 and 36 points, respectively, for the Laguna-based golfers.
