RP kayakers face tougher challenge
MANILA, Philippines - Hard-core kayakers face a tougher challenge in the second leg of the 2009 Philippine Kayaking Series set Sept. 19 from Ternate, Cavite to the historic Corregidor Island.
A 4-in-1 event featuring adventure sports, eco-adventure, historical trip, and an environmental advocacy with a coastal clean-up as part of the activities for the other participants, the two-leg marathon race will see the kayakers facing the daunting challenge of crossing the Manila Bay even as the 5K side event for novice kayakers will have competitors having an easier time from Corregidor Island Caballo and back in calm waters.
“This will defintely be a tougher event than the first one we had in the Hundred Islands. Also we have added a Corregidor-Mt. Samat Memorial Tour aside from the marathon and the novice race which will be preceded by a kayaking clinic, plus a night tour of Corregidor island, “ said organizer Didi Camara.
Tourism Secretary Ace Durano is supporting the event since kayaking couild be a major sports tourism attraction in the country.
The local government units of Cavite, headed by Gov. Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi, Trece Martires Mayor Jun de Sagun, Ternate Mayor Conrado Lindo, Board Member Recto Cantimbuhan, together with Sun Cruises, Camaya Coast, Cebu Pacific, the Ternate Jaycees Club-Mardicas, the Philippine Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, have all signifified their intention to be part of the event.
