Calderon big rally nets karting plum
MANILA, Philippines - Cebuano Jette Calderon rally unveiled an amazing last ditch move to rule the Formula SL Novice class recently in the fifth leg of the 2009 Magnolia Pure Water Karting Super Series recently at the Enchanted Kingdom Kart Trak in Sta. Rosa Laguna.
Fellow Cebuano Tonyo Carcel was in control down to the last lap of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia Pure Water, San Miguel Corp., Petron, Denso, Motorstar and Aeromed but Calderon pulled a surprise maneuver on the triple curve going into the main straight just before they hit the finish line.
He clocked 12 minutes and 51.897 for the feat, winning the 22-lap race by just 0.096 of a second ahead of Carcel.
Nikki Luna took third place while Korean Daniel Park of Ready2Race and Gab Dacasin wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.
Dacasin also won the MBA class, turning back runner-up Archim Lagman and third placer Louis Angeles.
Sharing the spotlight with Calderon were Vrei-AR Suba and Carl Pollington of PCR-Tough Gear Racing and Christian Gaddi of Jet Racing.
Suba ruled the ROK Novice division, clocking 14 minutes and 2.184 seconds to prevail over Matthew Solomon of Ready2Race and Joseph Castelar of AUTS Racing.
