Anton stays unbeaten, zooms in on autocross crown

-

BULACAN, Philippines -- Baguio City’s Carlos Anton moved a step closer to the coveted Philippine autocross title after capturing his third consecutive title in the series at the Meycauayan Industrial Park.

Driving his reliable Mark Young-Yokohama-Hornitex CRX, he made it three in a row after posting the day’s best time of 1:14.43 over equally tough rivals from DGL Racing Team’s Mato Tan and David Lim.

Tan copped the runner-up honors with a close time of 1:15.14 while Lim ended third in 1:15.36.

“This one was so hard-fought, we battled with David (Lim) to the last run and I was so lucky to have come out on top,” Anton said after the nail-biting final run where the two protagonists nearly crashed head on in the tightest part of the course.

With only one race remaining this August at Enchanted Kingdom, Anton now has a healthy lead in the autocross championship.

Anton earlier clinched his third consecutive Philippine hillclimb championship in the hills of La Union. So far his team, backed by Yokohama, has remained unbeaten in every race they joined this year in both the hillclimb and autocross series.

Other Baguio racers who won in the Bulacan autocross were Alfie Concepcion, Raymond De Vera and Rocky Fianza.

Dennis Aoyong, Frankie Domingo, Jeboy Marquez and Gary Loy all had first place finishes in the inaugural leg of the MP Turbo Time Attack series held the day before at Subic International raceway.

“Its great to see Baguio Boys dominating races wherever they go. I don’t feel so alone anymore at the races.” Anton said proudly of his Baguio team.
