Echavez, Thruelen outstanding tankers in Singapore meet

MANILA, Philippines - Loren Dale Echavez and Miguel Thruelen emerged most outstanding swimmers in the boys and girls 15-17 age categories of the Singapore Island Country Club swimming invitational meet which ended yesterday.

Swimming with the boys, Echavez broke all the meet records in the 200m individual medley (2:36.25), 100m fly (1:09.35), 50m free (28.75), 100m free (1:01.53) and 50m fly (31.34). She also won the Open Champions trophy in the 50m freestyle in 28.15.

Thruelen brought home two golds – in the 100m backstroke and 50m fly – while Paula Cayanan won the gold in 50m free for 9-10 girls in 36.10.

Over 150 swimmers from five countries – Brunei, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines – competed in the invitational meet.
